Public Hearing Notice: Data Center Infrastructure

The Columbus City Council’s Public Utilities and Sustainability Committee has scheduled a committee hearing regarding the community impact and development of data centers within the city. Chair Christopher L. Wyche and Council President Shannon G. Hardin will lead the discussion on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. However, residents wishing to provide testimony must act today. The deadline to register for either in-person or written testimony is Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. Interested parties should email their remarks and intent to testify to the City Clerk’s office. In-person comments are limited to three minutes per speaker.

Executive Address: 2026 State of the City

Mayor Andrew J. Ginther is scheduled to deliver the annual State of the City address on Tuesday evening, March 10, 2026. The event will begin with a community conversation at 5:30 p.m., followed by the official address at 6:00 p.m. The Mayor is expected to outline key priorities for the 100,000-unit affordable housing initiative and update the public on successful crime reduction pilot programs in neighborhoods like Linden. This address follows the recent passage of the $1.26 billion 2026 operating budget, which includes significant funding for the Community Shelter Board and youth summer programming.

Health Advisory: Measles Exposure Monitoring

Columbus Public Health and the Ohio Department of Health continue to advise residents of a potential measles exposure that occurred at John Glenn Columbus International Airport. Officials have identified the exposure window as the evening of February 18, 2026. Residents who were present at the airport during that time are urged to monitor for symptoms—including high fever, cough, and a characteristic rash—through Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Individuals who are unvaccinated or unsure of their vaccination status should contact their healthcare provider immediately if symptoms develop.

Infrastructure and Road Closures

Commuters are advised of several significant road closures active this week:

  • Fisher Road: Closed in both directions near the Interstate 70 interchange due to reports of falling concrete. Structural engineers are currently assessing the bridge infrastructure. No timeline for reopening has been established.
  • 17th Avenue: Remains closed from Clara Avenue to Dora Avenue. This long-term closure is necessary for the ongoing Expo 2050 construction projects at the Ohio Expo Center and State Fairgrounds and is expected to last through April.

Parks and Recreation Maintenance

The Columbus Recreation and Parks Department has announced several active construction projects impacting local amenities:

  • Albany Crossing Park: The playground is currently closed for a full equipment replacement. New structures designed for ages 2-12 are being installed, with work expected to continue through June.
  • Easthaven Park: Construction continues on two new playground structures. Access to the playground area is prohibited for safety until the project's completion this summer.
  • Hauntz Park: Comprehensive renovations are underway, including new lighting and wetland plantings. Residents are asked to avoid construction zones as heavy machinery is in use.
