Residential Trash and Recycling Schedule Adjustments

Due to the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day earlier this week, the City of Columbus Department of Public Service has implemented a "slide" schedule for all residential trash, recycling, and yard waste collections. For the remainder of the week, residents should expect their collection to occur one day later than their regularly scheduled day.

  • Residents with a typical Wednesday collection are being serviced today, Thursday, January 22.
  • Residents with a typical Thursday collection should place their bins at the curb for pickup tomorrow, Friday, January 23.
  • Residents with a typical Friday collection will be serviced on Saturday, January 24.

The city reminds residents that all bins must be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. to ensure collection during this adjusted timeframe. Regular collection schedules will resume on Monday.

Statewide Public Service Announcement: Childcare Fraud Safeguards

Governor Mike DeWine issued an official notice today emphasizing the importance of public vigilance regarding the state’s publicly funded childcare system. The Ohio Department of Children and Youth has introduced several new anti-fraud measures for 2026, including location-specific QR codes and photo confirmations for attendance verification.

Officials are urging Columbus families and providers to report any suspected misuse of childcare funds or improper sharing of Personal Identification Numbers (PINs). The state has already initiated an enforcement process to ensure that taxpayer dollars are used effectively to support workforce development and child safety.

Franklin County Property Tax Reappraisal Delay

The Ohio Department of Taxation has officially confirmed that Franklin County is among sixteen counties that will delay property tax reappraisals. Originally scheduled for the current cycle, the next full revaluation of real estate market values in Franklin County will now be postponed until 2030. This change aims to provide state and county partners more efficiency in the assessment process while managing the high volume of reappraisals across the state.

Health Advisory: Seasonal Respiratory Virus Activity

Columbus Public Health and the CDC have updated the current respiratory virus activity levels for the region. As of late January, seasonal influenza activity remains elevated, and national wastewater data shows moderate levels of COVID-19 and influenza spread. Residents are encouraged to follow standard health precautions, including staying home if symptomatic and ensuring they are up to date on seasonal vaccinations to mitigate the impact of the current peak in winter illnesses.
