Columbus City Council Meets to Vote on Major Infrastructure and Technology Projects

City Council Session Scheduled for Monday Evening
The Columbus City Council is set to convene today, Monday, February 9, 2026, for a comprehensive legislative session. The meeting, which begins at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, features a robust agenda with 139 separate matters for consideration, including significant investments in the city's technological infrastructure, public utilities, and community health services. Following the main session, a Zoning Committee meeting is also scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to address specific land-use applications.
Major Investments in Infrastructure and Technology
One of the largest financial items on today's agenda is Ordinance 0191-2026, which seeks to authorize over $12.6 million for the Blueprint Hilltop 4 project. This initiative involves integrated stormwater solutions for the Highland/Harris area and water line improvements for South Eureka Avenue. This project is a critical component of the city's long-term strategy to manage stormwater runoff and modernize neighborhood utility services.
Technology remains a high priority for the administration, with several ordinances focused on software and communication renewals. Council members will vote on Ordinance 0111-2026, a $575,000 contract renewal with Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) for geographic information systems (GIS) support. Additionally, the council is considering Ordinance 0159-2026, which allocates more than $312,000 to support a Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone project for Columbus City Schools.
Public Health and Safety Measures
The council will also review plans for significant facility improvements at local health centers. Ordinance 0192-2026 proposes nearly $475,000 for restroom renovations at the East Central Health Center. This project is intended to improve accessibility and hygiene standards at one of the city's vital community health locations. Furthermore, the Department of Public Safety is seeking approval for a $161,296 contract with LeadsOnline to maintain the Power Plus Investigation System, a tool used by law enforcement to track and recover stolen property.
Ceremonial Resolutions and Community Recognition
Beyond fiscal and infrastructure matters, the meeting will serve as a platform to recognize local leaders and milestones. Ceremonial resolutions include celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the local media outlet Columbus Underground. The council will also honor Duane Casares on his retirement from Directions for Youth & Families after 33 years of service, and recognize Judge James Edward Green on his retirement from the Franklin County Municipal Court. These resolutions highlight the council's ongoing commitment to acknowledging individuals and organizations that have shaped the city's civic life.
