Suspect faces aggravated murder and burglary counts tied to December 2025 shootings in Weinland Park

Michael David McKee, 39, has been indicted in Franklin County on multiple felony counts in connection with the fatal shootings of Monique Tepe and her husband, Spencer Tepe, who were found dead inside their Weinland Park home on Dec. 30, 2025. The case is moving through extradition steps after McKee’s arrest out of state, with custody arrangements pending his return to Columbus for court proceedings.

A Franklin County grand jury returned an indictment on Jan. 16, 2026, charging McKee with two counts of aggravated murder with prior calculation and design, one count of aggravated burglary, and two additional aggravated murder counts tied to the alleged burglary. The indictment includes firearm specifications, including an allegation involving a firearm suppressor.

What investigators have publicly laid out so far

Investigators have said the identification of a suspect was aided by neighborhood video surveillance. Publicly described investigative steps include tracking a vehicle seen arriving shortly before the homicides and leaving shortly afterward, then linking that vehicle to McKee. Law enforcement authorities located the vehicle in Rockford, Illinois, and have said evidence showed McKee possessed it before and after the killings.

Spencer Tepe, 37, was a dentist; Monique Tepe was 39. Their two young children were found in the home and were not physically harmed.

Charges, specifications, and potential penalties

The indictment alleges aggravated murder and aggravated burglary, with additional firearm specifications attached. Under the penalties described in the case materials released by prosecutors, a conviction would carry a sentence ranging from life in prison with parole eligibility after 32 years to life without the possibility of parole, depending on how counts and specifications are resolved.

  • Aggravated murder: alleged prior calculation and design
  • Aggravated burglary: alleged unlawful entry into an occupied structure
  • Firearm specifications: allegations include the use of a gun and a firearm suppressor

Extradition and custody status

McKee was arrested in Rockford, Illinois, on Jan. 10, 2026. He remained held in Illinois as extradition paperwork was processed for his transfer to Franklin County. Authorities have indicated he is being held pending return to Ohio, where the case will proceed in Franklin County courts.

McKee is presumed innocent. The indictment and investigative summaries reflect allegations that will be tested in court.

The shootings remain under active review as prosecutors prepare for the next stages of litigation, including initial appearances in Franklin County once extradition is completed.
