A Brief Reprieve from the Winter Chill

Columbus residents can expect a noticeable shift in the weather today, Tuesday, February 10, 2026. After a stretch of biting cold, the city is set for a brief reprieve as temperatures climb well above the freezing mark. While the day offers a break from the sub-zero wind chills of late, the transition between air masses will bring a variety of conditions to the metro area, ranging from bright morning sunshine to a murky, fog-filled afternoon.

Morning: A Bright but Brisk Start

The day begins with a crisp and clear atmosphere. Early risers will encounter temperatures starting in the mid-to-high 20s, with some areas seeing the mercury sit around 26°F. However, unlike the overcast skies of previous weeks, the morning will be dominated by sunshine. This early solar boost will help temperatures rise quickly, providing a pleasant window for those heading out on their morning commutes or morning walks.

Afternoon: Warmth Brings Low Clouds and Fog

By midday, Columbus will reach its peak warmth for the day. High temperatures are forecasted to hit between 44°F and 52°F, making this one of the milder days of the month. However, this warming trend comes with a catch. Meteorological data suggests that as the warmer air moves in, the morning sunshine will give way to variable cloudiness. By mid-afternoon, low clouds are expected to settle over Central Ohio, and patchy fog may develop. Drivers should remain alert for sudden changes in visibility during the latter half of the day, particularly on major routes like I-71 and I-270.

Evening and Overnight: Shifting Winds

As we move into the evening hours, the sky will remain predominantly cloudy. Temperatures will begin their slow descent, eventually settling at an overnight low between 28°F and 30°F. The wind will also play a role in the evening transition. While daytime winds will stay light out of the south-southwest at 5 to 10 mph, they are expected to shift and pick up speed late tonight. A northwest wind of 10 to 15 mph will usher in cooler air for the following day.

Precipitation and Safety Notices

  • Rain/Snow: There is a low 20% to 24% chance of light precipitation today. While a few stray flurries or a light drizzle cannot be ruled out, no significant accumulation is expected.
  • Wind: No high wind warnings are currently in effect, though the shift to the northwest tonight will make it feel slightly colder than the thermometer suggests.
  • Travel Advice: Use low-beam headlights if you encounter afternoon fog and maintain a safe following distance.

Enjoy the milder temperatures while they last, as a return to more seasonal, breezy, and colder conditions is anticipated for the remainder of the week.
