City Council and Zoning Updates
The Columbus City Council and the Zoning Committee have released the schedule for the upcoming legislative week beginning Monday, February 23, 2026. Following the publication of the latest City Bulletin on February 14, several key ordinances are slated for review. A notable Zoning Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday evening at 6:30 PM to address several residential and commercial applications.
- Holt Road Rezoning: Ordinance #0485-2026 proposes the rezoning of approximately 20 acres at 2219 Holt Rd from a Rural District to a Limited Apartment Residential District to accommodate new housing developments.
- Westerville Road Variance: Council will review a variance request for 4000-4022 Westerville Rd regarding parking requirements for proposed commercial use.
- Utility Infrastructure: A variance is under consideration for properties on Postlewaite Road to allow for the construction of a natural gas regulation station with modified development standards.
Public Health Advisories and Goals
Columbus Public Health (CPH) held its monthly Board of Health meeting on February 17, 2026, at the Parsons Avenue headquarters. The department has officially set its 2026 health standard for food safety, aiming for 99.5 percent of all retail food establishments to be in full compliance with public health regulations. Additionally, the department is scaling up its immunization efforts with a target of 30,000 vaccinations administered this year.
The Board also authorized the acceptance of infrastructure grant funds from the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board of Franklin County. Residents are reminded that new language interpretation service contracts with providers like Access 2 Interpreters and Effectiff LLC will take effect this spring to ensure equitable access to clinical services.
Road Closures and Infrastructure
The Department of Public Service continues to manage several long-term infrastructure projects impacting local traffic. The most significant ongoing disruption is the extended closure of 17th Avenue.
- Expo 2050 Construction: 17th Avenue remains closed between Clara Avenue and Dora Avenue. This closure is expected to remain in place through April 30, 2026, to facilitate active construction associated with the Ohio Expo Center's master plan.
- Winter Operations: As we remain in the core winter season, the Division of Infrastructure Management is maintaining 24-hour readiness for "Snow Warrior" crews. The 2026 budget has allocated specific funding for neighborhood-level plowing and the installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps across the city.
Public Service Announcements
The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) reminds healthcare providers and residents that the 2026 outpatient medication formulary changes went into effect on February 1. These updates include new reimbursement restrictions for certain gastrointestinal medications and adjustments to the Hospital Inpatient Fee Schedule. Finally, Columbus City Schools students interested in spring athletics are notified that track and field practices begin Monday, February 23. All participants must have current physicals on file prior to the first session.
