City Office Closures

The City of Columbus has announced that all administrative offices will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This closure includes City Hall, municipal court offices, and department headquarters. While administrative functions are paused, emergency services—including police, fire, and emergency medical response—will remain fully operational and unaffected by the holiday schedule. All city-managed community centers and public recreation facilities will also be closed for the day, with regular operating hours set to resume on Tuesday, January 20.

Refuse and Recycling Collection Schedule

In accordance with the City of Columbus Division of Refuse Collection holiday policy, there will be no trash, recycling, or yard waste collection on Monday, January 19. To ensure all neighborhoods are serviced, the city will implement a "slide" schedule for the remainder of the week. Residents should note the following adjustments to their pickup dates:

  • Monday’s regularly scheduled collection will move to Tuesday, January 20.
  • Tuesday’s collection will move to Wednesday, January 21.
  • Wednesday’s collection will move to Thursday, January 22.
  • Thursday’s collection will move to Friday, January 23.
  • Friday’s collection will move to Saturday, January 24.

Residents are reminded to have their bins at the curb or in the designated alley location by 6:00 a.m. on their adjusted collection day. The standard weekly schedule will resume on Monday, January 26.

Public Health Advisory: Seasonal Wellness

Columbus Public Health reminds residents that it is not too late to receive a seasonal flu vaccination. As winter temperatures persist across Central Ohio, the department continues to advocate for preventative care to reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses. Flu shots remain available at the Columbus Public Health immunization clinic and various local pharmacies. Additionally, health officials advise residents to follow winter safety protocols, which include maintaining proper home insulation and ensuring appropriate ventilation when using portable space heaters to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.

Parking and Traffic Notices

The Department of Public Service has confirmed that parking meter enforcement will be suspended on Monday, January 19. Motorists may park at city-owned meters free of charge for the duration of the holiday. However, all other parking regulations, including no-stopping zones, fire hydrant clearance, and residential permit parking restrictions, will remain strictly enforced to ensure public safety. Normal meter rates and time limits will return to effect at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Upcoming Public Meetings

Following the holiday, the Columbus City Council Zoning Committee is scheduled to convene on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. The session will focus on residential and commercial development applications currently under review. Members of the public who wish to provide testimony are encouraged to register with the City Clerk’s office in advance of the meeting date.
