MORPC Community Advisory Committee to Review Transportation Plans

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) is scheduled to hold a meeting of its Community Advisory Committee today, February 2, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. The session will take place at the MORPC offices located at 111 Liberty Street in Columbus. This meeting is a critical step in the regional planning process, as the committee is tasked with providing public input on infrastructure projects that affect the Greater Columbus area.

The primary agenda item for this evening is the review of several resolutions to amend the State Fiscal Year 2026-2029 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). This program outlines the schedule and funding for transit, highway, and pedestrian projects across Central Ohio. Additionally, the committee will discuss amendments to the 2026 Planning Work Program and review the 2025 Safety Performance Measure Targets set by the Ohio Department of Transportation. Officials will also provide an update on the East/West Transit Feasibility Study, which is being conducted in partnership with the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA).

Franklin County Auditor Holds Hearing on Property Standards

Beyond regional transportation, local property owners and developers are focused on a public hearing hosted today by Franklin County Auditor Michael Stinziano and Franklin County Engineer Adam Fowler. The hearing concerns the formal adoption of amended standards governing the conveyance of real property in Franklin County. These standards dictate the legal and technical requirements for transferring property titles and ensuring accurate land descriptions within the county's records.

Following today’s session, the updated standards are expected to take effect on March 2, 2026. The auditor’s office has emphasized that these changes are designed to modernize property transfer processes and ensure compliance with the Ohio Revised Code. Public testimony and written comments submitted during today’s hearing will be used to finalize the official standards.

City Schools and State Initiatives Kick Off

In addition to formal government meetings, several significant public administrative activities are commencing in Columbus today:

  • Columbus City Schools Enrollment: The district officially opens enrollment today for the 2026-2027 school year for students in grades K-12. Families are encouraged to submit applications early to ensure placement in their preferred neighborhood or lottery schools.
  • Rent Escrow Clinic: The Affordable Housing Alliance of Central Ohio is hosting a legal clinic this morning at the Franklin County Municipal Court. Attorneys are providing pro bono advice to residents regarding rent escrow processes and tenant rights.
  • Team Tressel Fitness Challenge: Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel is launching the second round of his statewide fitness initiative today. The program, which starts in Columbus, involves dozens of former collegiate and professional athletes who will act as mentors to students in grades 3-8 to promote healthy lifestyles and physical activity.

While the Columbus City Council is not holding a full legislative session today, these committee meetings and public hearings represent a busy day for local governance and community administration.
